2014 Calendar of Key Events


The Concern successfully passed certification for conformance with the requirements of the international standard ISO 50001:2011. The energy management system was implemented at all 10 operating NPPs, and the Concern headquarters.

April 9

The Concern hosted the meeting of the Management Board of the Fund for Promotion of Development of Municipalities "Association of Areas of Presence of Nuclear Plants" (AAP NP Fund).

April 14

A parliamentary safety inspection of the operating Russian NPPs organized at the initiative of the Federal Council was completed at the Beloyarsk NPP. Representatives of the Federal Council and State Duma also visited the Leningrad and Novovoronezh NPPs.

April 25

WANO's technical support mission devoted to "Organization of Work at NPPs on Monitoring and Analysis of Equipment Configuration" was completed at Rostov NPP.


The Balakovo and Rostov NPPs were recognized Russia's best NPPs during the traditional corporate contest "Best Nuclear Power Plants 2013".


The Kalinin NPP commemorated the 30th anniversary of start-up of power unit No. 1.

May 21-23

The Ninth International Scientific and Technical Conference "Safety, Efficiency, and Economics of Nuclear Power Industry" (MNTK-2014) organized by the Concern took place in Moscow.

June 27

Commencement of work on bringing the BN-800 reactor of the new power unit No.4 of the Beloyarsk NPP to the lowest capacity level.

June 27

Rostekhnadzor granted the license for an additional operating period of 30 years for power unit No. 1 of the Kalinin NPP.


The Beloyarsk NPP hosted festive events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first power unit start-up.


The Bilibino NPP celebrated its 40th anniversary.

August 4

The cooperation agreement on development of engineering infrastructure and creation of proper conditions to attract investors with the Baltic NPP OJSC and Yantarenergo OJSC was signed.

August 7

Rosenergoatom Concern was recognized as the best technical supervisor service of Rosatom State Corporation in 2014.

August 21-22

The Kalinin NPP hosted an extended conference "Electric Power Industry of the Russian Federation: Long-Term Prospects and Trends in Electric Power Industry. Action Plan to Promote Competition" organized by the Rosatom Corporate Academy.

September 22-23

The Leningrad NPP hosted a meeting of the Management Board of the Fund "Municipal Entities Association of Areas of Presence of Nuclear Plants" (AAP NP).

September 26

WANO's technical support mission devoted to "Application of ALARA Principles, Control Over Radioactive Contamination Spread" was completed at the Beloyarsk NPP.

September 30

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1st power unit startup at the Novovoronezh NPP.


The contract extending the operation term for the 5th power unit to 60 years was executed between the consortium of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC - Rusatom Service CJSC - EDF, and the Kozloduy NPP.

October 8

Rostekhnadzor granted the license for an additional operating period of 25 years for power unit No.4 of the Kola NPP.

November 10-12

The WANO Moscow Center together with the WANO Atlanta and Paris Centers conducted a technical support mission devoted to "Fostering and Development of Commitment to Safety at Operating Level" in the Concern.

November 14

Physical launch of power unit No. 3 commenced at the Rostov NPP.

November 27

IAEA experts completed the mission on review of operating safety (OSART) at the Kola NPP.


Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the AAP NP Fund and the Hungarian Association of Social Inspection and Information (TEIT).

December 4

Balakovo NPP was recognized the best Russian NPP in terms of safety culture in 2014.

December 11

The annual task of the FTS of Russia on power generation (168.3 bln KWh) was completed ahead of schedule

December 21-22

In the night between the 21 and 22 of December Russian NPPs followed through with the target indicator of Rosatom State Corporation having generated 175 bln KWh of electrical power.

December 27

Power unit No.3 of the Rostov NPP was included in the Russian unified energy system.


For the first time ever in the nuclear power industry Russian NPPs achieved a record aggregate capacity of over 26.4 GW (with the NPP installed capacity of 25.2 GW).
